Eagles Baseball with Impressive 5-0 Start!
The 2011 Baseball Class 5A and 2012 Class 8A District champion East lake Eagles are off to a 5-0 start after blowing past top ranked Seminole. In a contest of two of the area’s best and unbeaten teams, the Eagles once again won as a team. Pitching, defense, hitting, base running, hustle and a strong will to win under pressure came through. After Cameron Churchill worked a clean 1, 2, 3 first, Troy Strominger was HBP, Ian Lisle worked a walk and Grant Hodges singled loading the bases for Keegan Maronpot. He delivered an opposite field grand slam blast to rocket the Eagles up 4-0. Doug Rovello and Brad Depperman singled. Doug stole second and Brad advanced home on the throw giving the Eagles a 5-0 lead coming out of the first inning. Cameron continued to throw well with good defensive play by all, including, a spectacular throw by Andrew Monahan, through four innings. Along the way, in the third Doug singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Mark Saunders singled, stole second and Doug stole home on the throw to bring the game to 6-0 Eagles. Seminole fought back touching Cameron for a 3 run shot in the fourth and Brad for a solo homer in the sixth. It was too little, too late. Cameron pitched 5 strong innings with 2 earned runs striking out 4 and Brad earned the save striking out 5. They were very impressive with 9 K’s against one of the top area teams. Overall hitting was strong again. Keegan’s 4 RBI HR led the way. Grant had 2 singles and a double. Brad also had 3 hits as Doug hit two singles and Mark had the other single for a total of 10 hits, 16 quality-at-bats (51.61%) and 13 total bases. Base running was key again. Doug stole 2 bases, Grant and Mark also stole one each.
